JAXBIZ, the nonpartisan political organization affiliated with JAX Chamber, has endorsed Dave Chauncey for the open District 6 seat on the Duval County School Board.

Chauncey taught in Jacksonville schools at Jean Ribault Middle School with Teach for America and is now a local attorney with a labor and employment practice that also includes education issues.

“We are at a critical point for our schools and families in Duval County,” JAXBIZ Chair Dane Grey said. “The reforms of the past several years are paying dividends as student performance and graduate rates are on the rise. We need to keep the momentum going and David has the mix of classroom and outside experience to be a leader on the School Board.”

Chauncey is the Chair of the Ribault High School Future Lawyers Mentorship Program, a partnership between the Jacksonville Bar Association, the Jacksonville Public Education Fund and the D.W. Perkins Bar Association. As part of this unique program, 30 students are paired with a mentor and train for a mock trial they conduct at the Federal Courthouse.

High-quality public education for Jacksonville families is critical for the community and a top priority for JAX Chamber. JAXBIZ is in the process of interviewing candidates for the open seats on the board. District 6 serves Jacksonville’s Westside, including neighborhoods in Riverside, Avondale and Ortega. JAXBIZ last month endorsed Darryl Willie for the open District 4 seat and will interview candidates for the open District 2 seat. The primary election for Duval County School Board is in August.
